Pallet Mole: Simplifying High-Density Storage
For warehouses looking for a cost-effective solution without full automation, semi-automated shuttle systems offer a flexible alternative. The Pallet Mole is a 2-way shuttle that allows for automatic pallet handling within a racking system but requires forklifts to move the shuttle between different lanes.
How It Works
The shuttle runs back and forth along a single storage lane. When the shuttle is placed in a lane by a forklift, it autonomously moves pallets to the back of the rack and retrieves pallets when required, enabling dense storage without manual handling.
Cost-Effective Automation
The semi-automated system provides a low-cost entry into high-density storage automation without the complexity or cost of fully automated systems. It is ideal for businesses looking to boost throughput without a large capital investment.
Reduced Forklift Travel
By handling the internal movement of pallets within storage lanes, forklifts no longer need to navigate deep into racks, reducing travel distance and improving warehouse flow.
Easy to Implement
The 2-way shuttle system is simpler to install and use, making it a quick solution for warehouses looking to implement automation with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Two-Way Operation
The shuttle runs back and forth along a single storage lane. When the shuttle is placed in a lane by a forklift, it autonomously moves pallets to the back of the rack and retrieves pallets when required, enabling dense storage without manual handling.
Payload Capacity
Similar to the 4-way shuttle, the Pallet Mole supports loads of up to 1,500 kg per pallet, making it suitable for heavier items and robust storage needs.
Battery-Powered and Low Maintenance
The 2-way shuttle operates on battery power, and the system is designed with minimal moving parts, reducing the overall maintenance requirements. Charging stations are typically installed at either end of the racking system for quick recharging during operational downtime.
FIFO and LIFO Compatibility
The system supports both FIFO (First In, First Out) and LIFO (Last In, First Out) inventory management, which is essential for managing perishable goods or products with a shelf life.
Enhanced Efficiency and Speed
While not as fast as fully automated systems, the Pallet Mole still operates at up to 2.5 metres per second, increasing storage efficiency by reducing the time taken for pallet retrieval and storage.
